Energy Efficiency at Greyston

As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, we have made a huge effort to reduce Greyston Bakery’s energy usage over the last year. We recognize that saving energy and using green power alternatives reduces our Greenhouse Gas emissions and mitigates our contribution to global warming, which is a mission we are passionate about.

In 2013, we implemented efficient and low-energy LED lighting fixtures and we managed to reduce our lighting consumption by 70%! In addition to this great success, Greyston has also partnered with Green Mountain Energy to incorporate solar power into our energy mix. The Green Mountain Energy Sun Club® very generously donated a 36-panel array, allowing us to use more clean power and mitigate our carbon emissions. It is estimated that these panels will save 11,800 pounds of CO2 from being released into our atmosphere each year. Our brownies and cookies are even more delicious now that they’re baked with sunshine!

We’re not stopping here though: one of our key targets for 2014 is to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 15% (from 2012) and we are hard at work finding the best ways to accomplish this goal. Each step we take in the right direction makes our brownies and cookies even better for the world.
